LANSING (WOOD-AM) - A deal has been reached among lawmakers that will allow election officials to start processing absentee ballots two days before an election.

Ballots would be allowed to be removed from outer envelopes on Sunday. However, ballots must stay in secrecy sleeves until the morning of election day.

Ballots also can't be counted until election day.

Under the deal, ballot drop box security would be improved. County clerks are also going to be required to remove dead voters from voting rolls each month.
