The Grand Rapids Fire Department is accepting applications for their Cadet program.
GRFD Assistant Chief Eric Freeman says he is hoping to find kids like him when he was 19.
Freeman says the fire department wasn't on his radar until his stepfather mentioned it.
The cadet program is a part-time paid internship that will last for up to a year.
Applications are due September 7.
Applicants must be 18, have a valid driver's license and have a high school diploma or GED.
