The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is installing two underwater acoustic devices at the Holland State Park to study rip currents and wave patterns.
Holland's breakwaters are designed like an arrowhead, similar to Muskegon's.
However, Holland's beach creates a hook-like shape that may be contributing to additional rip current conditions.
The acoustic devices will collect data that engineers hope will create an algorithm that can help predict hazardous conditions.
