GRAND HAVEN (WOOD-AM) - The Coast Guard is expecting a 25 percent drop in recruiting this year.
At the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, Capt. Richter Tipton said up to 75 percent of young people are physically unable to serve. Of those who can serve, between nine and 12 percent of say they don't want to.
Among the challenges over the past few years has been an end to high school visits due to COVID-19.
