Ottawa County expanding composting program

The Ottawa County Department of Public Health is expanding its food composting program.

The Holland, Coopersville, Georgetown Township and Grand Haven sustainability centers will all collect food waste now.

Kim Wolters, an environmental health supervisor with the department, says the program is a great way to keep materials out of landfills and to create fertilizer.

Wolters says the program is not made to deter backyard composters.

Compostable bags are available for $5 for one bag or $12 for three.
