BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Four organizations are collecting donations of household supplies to help dozens of people forced from their Battle Creek apartments because of a fire.
The flames tore through Village Inn Apartments Sunday, damaging all three complex buildings, two extensively. Firefighters said seven people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, mostly involving smoke inhalation.
With the help of the American Red Cross, Covenant Hope Church provided shelter for some of the 72 tenants who were forced to evacuate. The church says it will close its temporary shelter at 6 p.m. Saturday, after all residents have found safe housing.
