UNDATED, Mich. -- Today marks the beginning of archery season for deer hunters in Michigan, running through November 14, and resuming from December 1 through January 1, 2027. This year, hunters have the option to use digital eHarvest tags, a new feature introduced by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to replace traditional paper kill tags.

The eHarvest tags, available through the DNR's Hunt Fish app, allow hunters to validate their tags electronically, even without cellular service. Hunters must report their harvest within 72 hours or before transferring possession of the deer, whichever comes first.

The DNR has been piloting digital tagging with turkey hunters over the past two years and is now expanding it to deer hunting. Hunters can still choose to use traditional paper tags if preferred.

As the season begins, hunters are advised to pay attention to food sources like white oak acorns, which are abundant in parts of Michigan and can influence deer movement. The DNR's 2026 deer hunting outlook highlights strong acorn production and normal antler development, suggesting a promising season ahead.

Hunters should review the 2026 Deer Hunting Regulations Summary for detailed information on season dates, license limits, and other important regulations. The DNR encourages hunters to familiarize themselves with these changes to ensure a safe and successful hunting experience.
