The Allegan County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating the suspected driver of a hit-and-run vehicle.
It said in a news release the crash occurred June 25 on 130th Avenue near 24th Street in Hopkins Township, around 9:15 p.m. The victim, a man, suffered serious injuries.
"He appeared to be operating on the westbound side of the roadway," ACSO Lt. Brandon Berens told WOOD Radio News. "(It was) on the northern-most part of the road, in a safe location. He had a flashing light on the back of his bicycle. Witnesses observed the vehicle also traveling westbound, strike him and then leave the scene.
A witness saw a white, full-sized van strike a bicyclist and then peel away. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is either a Chevy Express or GMC Savana van, with the model year anywhere between 2003 and 2027. It will have passenger-side damage, and possibly front-end damage. The ACSO provided stock images of a white full-sized van.
The sheriff's office said, " If you have any information that may assist with locating this suspect please send an email to Deputy Louise Hempston at LHempston@ALLEGANCOUNTY.ORG or Deputy Tucker Hoover at THoover@ALLEGANCOUNTY.ORG.
