HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Holland Department of Public says a 39-year-old woman was arraigned Monday in connection with the death of her 17-year-old son.
It says Katie Austin Lee of Holland was formally charged today with one count of open murder and one count of resisting and obstructing an officer. Bond was denied.
Detectives have said her son, Austin Dean Pikaart, was found dead in their apartment on February 21. Holland Public Safety officers responded around 4:15 that morning to the Bay Pointe Apartment complex on East 16th Street on a report of a domestic incident. They say they were confronted by a woman holding a knife, and eventually had to Taser her before taking her into custody.
Detectives worked with the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office, which authorized the warrant and led to the arraignment.
A date has not yet been set for a probable cause hearing.
