Grand Rapids Public Library to present Black History Month programs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Public Library staff, local businesses and artists will give presentations as part of Black History Month programming.

The library says they will highlight and celebrate the local Black community.

Tracing the Steps | African American Women During the Progressive Era in Grand Rapids

Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Join Sophia Brewer, an academic librarian at Grand Rapids Community College, as she delves into her research on early African American women’s clubs and the remarkable women who led these organizations right here in Grand Rapids.

Black History Live with Culture Queen

Saturday, February 22, 2025, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Main Library – 111 Library Street NE

Black History Live with Culture Queen is an immersive and engaging performance designed for children, combining original, interactive music, movement, and storytelling to help them embrace their history and love themselves. Designed for ages 613. 

Culture Queen’s captivating personality and creative approach to cultural education invites children to celebrate everything that makes them unique. By the end, kids will leave with a newfound confidence, cultural pride, and curiosity about the world, proudly declaring, “I Like The Me I See!”

Black History Month Storytimes

Join us for a series of storytimes during Black History Month. Storytimes will highlight Black stories and include songs, fingerplays, and hands-on fun. Classes end with a special art activity and playtime.
