YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids purchases Club Fitness Center in Greenville

GREENVILLE, Mich. -- The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids has purchased the Club Fitness Center in Greenville.

The "Y" says it will honor the legacy of the club's current owners by continuing to provide health and wellness programs for the community. The "Y" also will offer youth development programs, senior wellness initiatives, and family and community programs.

Here are more details from a YMCA news release:

The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is proud to announce the official purchase of The Club Fitness Center in Greenville, marking a pivotal moment in expanding community-focused programs and services in the region. This acquisition is about more than a building, it’s about creating a lasting community impact.

The foundation for this partnership began July 2019 when Al and Gloria Guilfoyle, owners of The Club Fitness Center, invited the Y to help them expand swim programming in their indoor pool. Their long-term vision of finding a successor to champion community wellness is now becoming a reality.

“This is an exciting new chapter for The Club and Greenville,” said Al Guilfoyle, owner of The Club Fitness Center. “Gloria and I are thrilled to see the YMCA build on the foundation we’ve created, bringing even more opportunities for health and wellness to our community.”

The Y will honor the legacy of The Club’s current owners, recognizing their longstanding commitment to health and wellness in Greenville.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the foundation they’ve built and are committed to building upon their legacy with programs and services that serve the entire community,” said Scott Lewis, president/CEO of the Y.

The addition of a Y in Greenville will become a vibrant center for health, wellness and connection. This community-focused hub will include:

• Youth development programs that empower children and teens through swim lessons, sports and more.

• Senior wellness initiatives that promote healthy aging and meaningful social engagement.

• Family and community programs foster belonging, resilience and growth for all ages.

“This project is about more than just the building; it’s about investing in the people and future of Greenville through all of the programs and services the Y has to offer,” said Julie Stafford, co-chair of the Greenville Area YMCA Capital Campaign. “We envision a space where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can come together, strengthen their health, and build a stronger community.

The Club Fitness facility will remain open through fall 2025 under the leadership of the Guilfoyles. The Y is eager to continue to build partnerships throughout the year as it focuses on planning renovations and expansion of the facility that aligns with its mission and principles starting in 2026. Further details about the timeline and programming will be shared in the coming months.
