GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The City of Grand Rapids say one of the victims in this morning's fire at 501 Griggs Street is in critical-but-stable condition.
The city provided an update Wednesday afternoon saying there were six people inside the home, not the five it originally reported.
It happened inside a two-story house when it caught fire just before 4 a.m. Grand Rapids firefighters rescued four people from the home near College Avenue, one escaped from a ground-floor window and the other exited from a second-floor window.
All of them were taken to area hospitals. The city says four adults and two children were in the home when the fire began. One of them is in critical-but-stable condition. The city says the two children have been released from the hospital. Three adults are in stable condition.
Investigators are looking into the cause of it.
Red Cross services have been contacted.
The city said in a news release, "As always, GRFD reminds you to have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. If you live in your own homes, please call 311 or dial (616) 456-3000 to schedule a free home safety assessment and free smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detector installation."
