MSP: Medical issue likely led to fatal crash Tuesday morning in the S-Curve

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Tuesday morning in downtown Grand Rapids.

It happened around 6:15 on southbound US-131 before Pearl Street, in the S-Curve.

State Police said they believe the driver suffered a medical issue, but the investigation continues. They told us the vehicle struck both the outside wall and the median wall. Life-saving measures were made, but troopers said the driver later was declared dead at the scene.

That person's name and age have not been released yet.

It was the second fatal crash on US-131 in Grand Rapids in six hours. A 54-year-old man died Monday night when he lost control of his car on northbound US-131 near Leonard Street. The roads were slippery at the time.
