GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Greg Deja is no stranger to Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School.

He spent a decade as the principal. And now, Deja returns as its president, effective on January 21, 2025. He will attend a Mass during Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 10:15 a.m. The public will get a chance to speak with him at a light reception afterward.

Here are more details from a Catholic Central news release:

Catholic Central High School is proud to announce the return of Greg Deja as its president. An accomplished leader in Catholic education, Greg brings a wealth of experience, a deep connection to the school, and a steadfast commitment to forming servant leaders for a Christ-centered life as he steps into this role.

Greg’s journey in Catholic education began at Lake Michigan Catholic Elementary and High School in St. Joseph, MI, before continuing his studies at John Carroll University in Ohio, where he earned a degree in English and a teaching credential. He later completed a Master's in School Administration at Providence College in Rhode Island. Greg’s career in education has included roles as a teacher, dean of students, coach, and principal. From 2010 to 2020, Greg served as principal of Catholic Central High School, a period marked by growth and innovation. Under his leadership, the school launched transformative initiatives, including the Greatest Gift campaign, the construction of the CAT Facility on the north side of Grand Rapids, the introduction of weekly Mass, becoming the state’s first STEM-certified high school, and the creation of the house system.

“Returning to Catholic Central truly feels like coming home,” said Deja. “This community has been a cornerstone of my personal and professional journey, and I am honored to serve once again. I look forward to listening, learning, and collaborating with our students, families, and supporters to build on the school’s mission and ignite the world on fire.”

Most recently, Greg served as the first full-time executive director of the Catholic Foundation of West Michigan. Greg and his wife, Caroline, live in Grand Rapids with their four children: Chris, Samantha, Teddy, and Ben. The family is excited to reconnect with the Catholic Central community.

Greg’s first day as president will be Tuesday, Jan. 21. He invites the community to join him for Mass during Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 10:15 a.m., with a light reception directly following.
