GRPD: Pedestrian dies at scene after being hit by vehicle on East Beltline

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on the East Beltline at Leonard Street around 6:30 Wednesday morning.

Grand Rapids Police said in a news release that life-saving measures were attempted but the man died at the scene. His age, name and hometown were not immediately available.

The GRPD said the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

It also says the southbound lanes of the Beltline would remain closed near Leonard Street until at least 9:30 a.m., while the on-scene investigation continued. Drivers were asked to use an alternate route.

Anyone with more information is encouraged by the GRPD to contact Officer Alex Thompson at (616) 456-3320/athompson@grcity.us or Officer Tyler Kohl at (616) 456-4531/tkohl@grcity.us. Tips can also be sent anonymously through Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345 or silentobserver.org.
