GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - The second-degree murder case against retired Michigan State Police Sergeant Brian Keely is staying in federal court.
A judge ruled yesterday the case will be tried at that level because Keely was under the supervision of federal officers when he struck and killed Samuel Sterling with an unmarked state police vehicle in April.
Keely was working with other law enforcement officers to catch Sterling, who was a wanted fugitive.
Sterling was struck in a parking lot in Kentwood.
