Latino/Hispanic community to hold annual pilgrimage in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Latino/Hispanic community in Grand Rapids will gather Wednesday evening to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with a pilgrimage.

It will get underway at 6:30 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 101 Hall Street, east of Division Avenue, and proceed to the Shrine of St. Francis Xavier and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

More than one-thousand people participated in last year’s procession and Mass.

Father Jose Luis Quintana is pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Wyoming. He told WOOD Radio what the pilgrimage will include.

"Live music. There's going to be dancers, there's going to be prayer. There's going to be food. There's going to be a Mass. Bishop (David) Walkowiak is going to celebrate a Mass at 8 p.m.," Quintana said.

Also participating will be Monsignor Diego Monroy Ponce, the retired rector of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
