Police arrest stolen-vehicle suspects after high-speed chase in Kent, Ionia

CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office says a 19-year-old Detroit woman is in jail following a police chase that began in Caledonia Township.

The owner of Comodo Motors was watching on a live surveillance system around 2 a.m. when three vehicles were being stolen from the dealership on Broadmoor Avenue north of 84th Street. Deputies arrived as five vehicles were taking off, and that led to a chase on M-6 and then I-96 into Ionia County. One of the vehicles was disabled with stop sticks. But the driver got out and jumped into another stolen vehicle which then headed into Ionia County at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The sheriff's office there, along with Portland Police, later took the 19-year-old suspect into custody. The other vehicles eventually were recovered, one of them in Livingston County.

"We're still looking to identify an additional four people," Kent County Sergeant Kailey Gilbert told WOOD Radio. "As of now, the Kent County Sheriff's Office believes the two other stolen vehicles in this investigation are likely stolen and maybe not reported yet."
