GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Kent County Prosecutor's Office has filed a six-count embezzlement charge against a man who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from the Saladin Shriners organization.
Prosecuting Attorney Chris Becker said Richard Ivan Williams is being charged with three counts of embezzlement over $100 thousand, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, or three times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater, upon conviction. Williams also is facing three other charges of embezzling $50,000 or less. That is a felony charge with a maximum penalty of 15 years and a fine of $25,000, or three times the amount embezzled, whichever is greater.
"These are six separate counts of embezzlement," Becker said in a news release. "The earliest charge stems from activity in 2019, the last in July of 2024. At this time, these are merely charges. Mr. Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt on all counts. We have no information on when he will be arraigned."
