Grand Rapids driver booked into jail after fatal rollover crash in Ionia Co

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. -- The Ionia County Sheriff's Office says a 27-year-old Grand Rapids man was arrested in connection with yesterday's fatal rollover crash in Orange Township.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. Thursday on Grand River Avenue near Gregory Road. Police say a pickup with five guys inside it lost control and went into a ditch. One passenger was declared dead at a hospital and another suffered serious-but-non life threatening injuries.

The Ionia County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the police report to determine if formal charges will be filed. The driver was booked into jail on one count of Moving Violation Causing Death.

The Sheriff's Office posted on social media that the driver and the two other men in the pickup truck were not seriously injured.

"The name of the deceased is not being released as positive identification has not been completed nor has his family been notified," the ICSO said. "The investigation of the crash continues, while alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors, excessive speed and not using seat belts is the likely cause of this incident."

Assisting on the scene were the Berlin-Orange Fire Department, LIFE EMS, Reed and Hoppes Towing, and the Ionia County Medical Examiner's Office.
