Kent County Commission adopts revised master plan for John Ball Zoo

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Kent County Board of Commissioners has adopted a revised master plan for the John Ball Zoo.

The master plan serves as a guidepost for how it should be developed over the next 13 years, including some new exhibits that will be added.

Several residents asked county commissioners to vote against the master plan.

"“This plan was developed with input from numerous individuals and community organizations," Peter D’Arienzo, CEO of John Ball Zoo, said recently.

Some of the elements of the proposed Master Plan include the expansion of the Zoo’s African area with additional species like giraffes; one of the largest indoor habitats in the United States; and the return of a sea lion habitat with underwater viewing; a world-class conservation center and many other projects.

More information about the proposed Master Plan is available on the Zoo’s website
