BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Michigan Sheriff's Association is conducting an internal investigation into how a prisoner managed to briefly escape from a moving Mecosta County Sheriff's Office transport van.
The Sheriff's Office said the Michigan State Police also are investigating the circumstances of how 26-year-old Tylor Ormsbee got out of the van's rear compartment before jumping out of the vehicle on October 24.
Deputies say he died after hitting the pavement on US-127 in Gratiot County. Ormsbee was being driven from Big Rapids to the Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson at the time.
