GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Kent County Board of Canvassers will convene at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at the county courthouse.
Kent County Clerk & Register of Deeds Lisa Posthumus Lyons said on West Michigan's Morning News that the board will review the results from all of the 250 precincts.
"To make sure they match the results that we reported on our website. We're going to make sure we go through the poll book and ensure that the number of ballots cast matched the number of ballots that we issued," she said.
Nearly 69 percent (68.8%) of Kent County registered voters cast ballots in the general election.
"Actually, admittedly the lowest turnout that we've had since the 2012 presidential election. Not by much. We hit a high-water mark in 2020 at 72 percent. And then, 2016 was more like this year at 69 percent," Posthumus Lyons said.
She was so busy trying to ensure a smooth election process that her own re-election campaign took a bit of a backseat. Nonetheless, Posthumus Lyons defeated Democrat Scott Urbanowski.
"I'm really honored. I love this job and I'm really excited to serve another four years. But what's funny is I would often forget that I had my own race. Running for office and running the election, they're two different things."
