BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office has released surveillance photos of a female suspect allegedly scamming an elderly woman out of thousands of dollars in a strip mall parking lot in southern Kent County.
It happened on May 30, 2024, in the Cutlerville area of Byron Township, at the U-Haul storage location along 68th Street at Clyde Park Avenue.
Deputies say the woman victim had been told she needed to post a $16,000 bond for her son to get out of jail. The victim handed over cash to the alleged scammer.
Michigan State Police in Grand Rapids have obtained video footage of the transaction, and it has been released to the media.
