Here are more details from a news release:
Officials with the state’s leading local public health association opened their annual conference to a record crowd this morning at the Delta Marriot Muskegon Convention Center.
Held for the past 36 years as a forum to discuss top public health issues, the Michigan Premier Public Health Conference this year brings a more comprehensive focus to new and existing issues.
Michigan Association for Local Public Health Executive Director Norm Hess said the conference historically was focused on providing local and state public health officials a forum to discuss their challenges, but delivering healthier communities requires local and state partnerships few people consider “traditional public health.’”
“Local health officials don’t do their work alone or in a vacuum,” he said. “The health of every community involves a myriad of partners focused on things ranging from housing to law enforcement. We are using our annual conference to invite all our partners to the table for an expanded conversation about how we best serve Michigan communities.”
From climate change to employee retention strategies to monitoring community health by testing wastewater, conference sessions will delve into the top issues facing public health professionals and community organizations who are part of their mission.

“We excited to have more than 500 registrants engaged in the conversation this year,” Hess said. “We are in a new era of public health, and the challenges we face will require broad collaboration around the state.”
