Animal Control officers confiscate 17 dogs found living in pickup truck

WALKER, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office says animal control officers responded to a welfare check Monday and confiscated several dogs from a pickup truck in Walker.

"Our preliminary investigation revealed that 17 dogs were living with the owner in this vehicle. The dogs were transferred to our shelter while the investigation continues," KCSO Sgt. Kailey Gilbert told WOOD Radio.

The pickup truck was parked in a strip mall along Alpine Avenue north of I-96. As for the condition of the dogs.

"We do believe they are okay," Gilbert said. "As far as long-term medical, that's still being evaluated by the shelter."

The Kent County Prosecutor's Office had yet to review the police report at the time of publication.
