Kentwood's free fall leaf & brush drop-off service starts Saturday

KENTWOOD, Mich. -- Beginning this Saturday, the City of Kentwood will once again provide a free leaf and brush drop-off service.

City residents can drop off loose leaves, brush, sticks, tree limbs, logs and grass clippings free of charge at the Kentwood Department of Public Works on Breton Road. The hours are noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday.

Here are more details from a City of Kentwood news release:

Residents may drop off loose leaves, brush, sticks, tree limbs, logs and grass clippings free of charge at the Kentwood Department of Public Works, 5068 Breton Ave. SE. If leaves are brought to the site in bags, residents must dump them out in the leaf pile and dispose of the bags in the trash. Bags cannot be left in the leaf pile.

This service is available for Kentwood residents only, and proof of residency is required. Residents can drop off items from noon-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday, Nov. 27. The site will be closed Monday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

Materials that cannot be accepted include trash, paper and plastic bags, dirt, concrete, asphalt, tires, rocks, construction materials, glass and metal.

The burning of leaves and brush as well as the accumulation of debris and leaves on a property or in the right-of-way are prohibited in the city of Kentwood. The drop-off service provides residents with a convenient way to keep their yards clear of leaves and debris during the fall.

“Each fall, community members are burdened with an influx of leaves, sticks, logs and other yard waste,” said Chad Griffin, Department of Public Works director. “We’re happy to provide this free service for residents to help them keep not only their yards clean, but our roads and storm drains clear to reduce flooding and storm water pollution.”

The leaf and brush drop-off site opens every fall and spring. Spring 2025 drop-off dates are to be announced after the start of the new year.
