GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office says it has taken a Forest Hills Northern student into custody in connection with a threat over the phone. It is unrelated to an incident Tuesday night that led to Forest Hills Northern being closed.
"Our school resource officers and detectives quickly responded and began investigating," Sgt. Kailey Gilbert told WOOD Radio in a phone interview. "We developed a suspect (who was) quickly interviewed, resulting in the arrest of a 14-year-old Forest Hills (Northern) student for filing a false report of terrorism. The investigation found that there is no threat to the school or its students."
The student was placed in the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center.
The KCSO added in a news release that it takes threats made against schools seriously and "continues our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our schools."
The other, unrelated incident happened late Tuesday night. An anonymous tip received through the state's Ok2Say student safety program led to Forest Hills Northern High School being closed Wednesday, out of an abundance of caution. That threat was later deemed not to be credible.
"There is no current threat to the public," Gilbert told us late Thursday afternoon.
