WALKER, Mich. -- A 5K Run/Walk will take place on October 5th in Walker to raise funds and awareness about colon cancer.
The Get Your Rear in Gear event will take place on Saturday, October 5 in Walker to raise funds and awareness about colon cancer. The Get Your Rear in Gear will begin at the Millennium Park Grant Pavilion. There will be an opening ceremony at noon, followed by a Kids' Fun Run and a 5K Time Run and Untimed Walk. Colorectal cancer survivors and patients can register free of charge.

12:00 p.m. - Opening Ceremony & Team Awards
12:15 p.m. - Kid's Fun Run
12:30 p.m. - 5K Timed Run & Untimed Walk
1:30 p.m. - Post-Race Finisher Awards
Packet Pickup:
Onsite race morning starting at 11am.
Spencer Vereecken is the co-event director. He said on West Michigan's Morning News the Colon Cancer Coalition emphasizes getting screened for early detection.
"It is the second-most deadly cancer to breast cancer, and it is preventable. So, that's why we try to (emphasize) the importance of that early detection," he said.
The fundraising goal is $17,000 and, at the time of publication, about $12,000 had been raised to date.
