West Side Walk for Gilda's set for Saturday to support free cancer programs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Gilda's Club Grand Rapids will host its 10th annual West Side Walk on Saturday.

The West Side Walk for Gilda's will honor the thousands of lives impacted through Gilda's Club's free cancer and grief programming. Organizers say the funds raised in the 1.5-mile walk will provide resources to people experiencing emotional difficulties.

The fundraising goal this year is $160,000.

"Money raised through this event helps fund free cancer and grief programs that we offer to the community," Shawn Campbell said. She is vice president of development at Gilda's Club.

Campbell told WOOD Radio that registration will open at 10 a.m. Saturday.

"People can register online ahead of time at GildasClubGR.org/walk. And we do accept walk-up registrations the day of the event, as well," she said.

It is a non-competitive event that will begin with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. at Gilda's Clubhouse on Bridge Street.

"What makes this event really special is it starts and ends at our beautiful clubhouse on Bridge Street," Campell said. "And it allows people the opportunity to come and see what Gilda's Club is all about. There are tours available in the building. We have a celebratory lunch following the walk, as well."

There will be a post-walk after party, including music, food and kids’ activities. The event is pet friendly.
