OCSO: Muskegon man follows woman to gas station in Port Sheldon, grabs her

PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Detectives have taken a 60-year-old Muskegon man into custody after he allegedly followed a 24-year-old Grand Haven woman in a vehicle and then touched her inappropriately.

Ottawa County Sheriff's investigators say that was after both cars stopped at a gas station in Port Sheldon Township on Sunday night.

The man followed the woman as she drove south on US-31 from Grand Haven. Police say his vehicle struck the victim's Jeep at one point and he continued to follow her to the gas station at Stanton Street.

Both got out of their vehicles. Police say the woman, at first, thought the man wanted to file a police report.

She was able to free herself from the suspect and called 9-1-1. The man is now in the Muskegon County Jail on criminal charges, plus an alleged parole violation.

The female received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by AMR ambulance.

Detectives continued the investigation and were able to identify the suspect as a 60 year old Muskegon man. Detectives made contact with him in Muskegon on 09/09/24, and took him into custody without incident. The male was lodged at the Muskegon County Jail for Parole Violation and criminal charges are pending for this incident in Ottawa County.

His name will not be released at this time.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident on Sunday evening to contact the Sheriff's Office to speak to a detective. Additionally, anyone who may have had similar contact with the suspect is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (616) 738-4000.
