Pine Rest to host mental health conference for construction industry

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services will host a conference in Cutlerville on Thursday about mental health in the construction industry.

It will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Postma Center.

The conference is called "Building Minds." Meg Mathis is the marketing director Dan Vos Construction and a member of the Construction Careers Council at West Michigan Works. She tells us who a couple of the guest speakers for the event will be.

"The past president of Freedom Construction, Steve Huizenga, who's going to talk about personal experiences with mental-health challenges. We also have a pastor and counselor that has been extremely helpful in the construction industry, Josh Zoerhof," Mathis said on West Michigan's Morning News.

Zoerhof will discuss how to deal with stress and burnout. Huizenga will share his knowledge and experience with depression, anxiety and addiction. Professor and counselor Mark Dyke and Deputy Director of Labor Sean Egan also will give presentations.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided at the conference. Registration is free, but attendance capacity will be limited.

"It is just a taste of how the community can come together and utilize our local resources," Mathis said.
