Grand Haven Board of Light & Power names new general manager

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- The Grand Haven Board of Light & Power has appointed Robert Shelley as its new general manager.

They voted for him at a special meeting last night after a national search was conducted. Shelley has worked for BLP for nine years, spending the last eight months serving as the utility’s interim general manager.

The decision follows a comprehensive national search and hiring process through MyCoff, Fry & Prouse LLC, a leading executive search company specializing in utility professionals.

Shelley, a licensed professional engineer who graduated from Michigan Technological University with a degree in engineering, has over 20 years of industry experience. He has worked for the BLP for nine years, spending the last eight months serving as the utility’s interim general manager.

“It’s an honor to be officially selected for this role, and I look forward to serving the community and continuing the award-winning level of service our customers have come to expect,” said Shelley.

In his previous role as distribution & engineering manager, Shelley oversaw significant improvements in reliability at the BLP, including investments in all substations, rebuilding the 69 kV transmission system and numerous distribution improvements.

The BLP serves over 15,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the City of Grand Haven, City of Ferrysburg, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Robinson Townships with affordable, sustainable, and award-winning reliable service.
