GREENVILLE, Mich. -- The longest operating refrigeration company in North America is expanding.
Along with the Montcalm Economic Alliance, the Right Place economic development team said it helped Northland Corporation secure more than $5 million in state and local incentives to expand its Greenville facility at 1260 E. Van Deinse St. by 98,000 square feet.
The company plans to create 200 new jobs during the expansion and says that it will produce more than $21 million in capital investment ($17m in property investment and $4.4m in equipment).
Here are more details from a news release:
Northland has pioneered numerous advancements in undercounter refrigeration technology. It is credited with creating the first foamed-in-place refrigerator and the first refrigeration of its kind with sleek stainless-steel interiors and glass doors.
The company has seen dramatic growth and increasing demand for its products, and due to this growth, Northland Corporation is increasing its production capacity for its high-end appliances. The company plans to expand its 175,000 SF facility by an additional 98,000 SF and add multiple pieces of state-of-the-art equipment to help support new product advancements.
The Montcalm Economic Alliance, powered by The Right Place, worked closely with the City of Greenville and the MEDC to ensure the company continued its growth in the region rather than out-of-state locations. The total incentives are as follows:
Michigan Business Development Program $1,280,000
City of Greenville Property Tax Abatement $2,838,327
State Education Tax Abatement $646,808
Sales and Use Tax Exemptions $264,000
"We’re excited about the expansion of our manufacturing facility in Michigan,” said Andy Doberstein, President of Northland Corporation. “This state is home to a remarkable workforce, and we are excited to leverage their talents to produce more cutting-edge refrigeration products. Our commitment to innovation and quality will continue to drive our growth and success in this great community."
“The City of Greenville is very excited to see our partners at Northland Corporation choose to expand its facility in our city,” said George Bosanic, Manager of the City of Greenville. “They have a rich history of success here in Greenville and we are looking forward to a long and prosperous working relationship long into the future.”
“The Montcalm Economic Alliance is proud to have worked with Northland Corporation, the City of Greenville, the MEDC, and Michigan Works to continue building on Northland’s long and storied history in Greenville,” said Jakob Bigard, Executive Director of the Montcalm County Economic Alliance. “This investment by Northland strengthens Greenville and Montcalm County’s place as manufacturing destinations with a high quality of life.”
