NELSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- An attempted break-in Tuesday near Cedar Springs has resulted in the arrest of a fleeing suspect.
The Kent County Sheriff's Office says a 68-year-old man saw a man breaking into his neighbor's outbuilding near Myers Lake Avenue and 20 Mile Road around 9 a.m., in Nelson Township.
"Our witness followed, heard loud noises, and observed broken glass near the garage's service door," the KCSO said in a news release.
The neighbor confronted the suspect, who took off running into the woods. Sheriff's deputies and Michigan State Police troopers - including a K9 - searched the area but were initially unable to locate him. About an hour later, police saw the suspect coming out of the woods. He then was arrested.
The Kent County Prosecutor's Office will now review the police report to consider what charges might be filed.
"He was arrested for attempting to break and enter. KCSO values our observant community members for calling us when they observe suspicious activity," the sheriff's office said.
