HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says two pedestrians were hit by a boat that broke free from a vehicle that was towing it Sunday afternoon.
It happened near the intersection of Quincy Street and 140th Avenue in Holland Township, around 2 o'clock.
Police said the boat broke free from the truck, went off the road and hit the two pedestrians on a bike path. They were both trapped underneath the boat until Holland rescue crews got them out.
Sheriff's deputies said a 62-year-old Holland resident died and a 38-year-old Holland resident was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of truck is from Holland and 44 years old.
"The area of Quincy and 140th was shut down for a period of time for crash investigation and clean up," the OCSO said in a news release. "This crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office."
