Vice President Kamala Harris pays a visit to Portage

PORTAGE, Mich. -- Vice President Kamala Harris is speaking at an event in Portage this afternoon.

It is her fourth visit to Michigan so far this year.

Harris is discussing reproductive rights in a moderated forum with a Michigan mother, who is a former Republican who had problems with the previous Republican administration's position on abortion. Also participating is Olivia Troye, a former aide to Mike Pence when he was vice president.

Michigan is a key battleground state in the presidential election. That has been underscored by all the recent visits to the state by top officials from both the Democratic and Republican parties.

On Saturday, former President Donald Trump and his new vice presidential running mate, J.D. Vance, will speak at a rally inside Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids. It is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. that day. The doors will open at 1 p.m. Expect tight security.

Ticket information is available on the Trump campaign website and the arena website.
