GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in southeast Grand Rapids to mark the completion of the Avenue Apartments rehabilitation.
That will be followed by a cookout. The location is 13-hundred Madison Avenue, which is between Adams and Hall streets. Orion Construction and LINC UP are co-hosting the event, which will include speeches by some key stakeholders.

The Avenue Apartments project is a development by LINC UP, with Orion Construction serving as the general contractor. These organizations have a shared commitment to excellence in construction and community development. This partnership has created a vibrant, modern, and sustainable living space that caters to diverse needs.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony and cookout will take place on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Avenue Apartments located at 1300 Madison Avenue SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Esteemed members of the community, government officials, and representatives from both Orion Construction and LINC UP will be in attendance to celebrate this momentous occasion.
The event will feature speeches from key stakeholders, showcasing the vision and impact of the Avenue Apartments project. Attendees will have the opportunity to witness the official ribbon cutting, signifying the successful completion of the construction. Following the ceremony, a celebratory cookout will be held, providing a chance for the community to come together and enjoy food and fellowship.
"The Avenue Apartments project represents a significant milestone in our commitment to creating affordable and accessible housing options for the people of Grand Rapids," said Latrice Harrison, Multifamily Development Manager of LINC UP. "We are excited to see our vision become a reality and to celebrate this achievement with the community." Avenue Apartments preserves ten existing and constructs ten new affordable senior units to meet the demand for affordable senior living in Grand Rapids. Improvements to the existing units include replacing furnaces and air conditioning units with high-efficiency models and replacing hot water heaters.
Amenities include a full appliance package with dishwasher, microwave, mini-blinds, and air conditioners. Laundry rooms on each floor were expanded to include four washers and dryers per room, which are provided at no charge to tenants. Outdoor amenities include a landscaped courtyard with space for sitting and visiting.
Units are designed to let in ample natural light into the bedroom and living area. The existing elevator serves the entire building. The renovation and expansion utilized the Enterprise Green Community design guidelines. Improvements included remodeling the existing community room.
