GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Meals on Wheels Western Michigan Chief Executive Lisa Wideman tells WOOD-TV that her organization had no other choice but cut meal deliveries after losing some federal funding.
"It's pretty rough, it’s very sad and there’s even more cuts on the horizon for FY25 for our programs," Wideman said.
Wideman said the House Appropriations Committee cut $8 million from senior nutrition programs for this fiscal year.
Caledonia Republican Congressman John Moolenaar, who is on that committee, said he supports legislation that funds Meals on Wheels at the same funding levels from last year.
Moolenaar also said inflation, ultimately, was to blame for reduced service.
