MUSKEGON, Mich. -- A man who allegedly attacked a woman with a knife Wednesday morning after refusing to surrender to police is dead.
Muskegon Police were summoned to the scene around 4 a.m. Officers say a 20-year-old man was holding a knife and acting erratically.
Per a Muskegon Police Department news release: "The subject was not compliant with officers, who were attempting to de-escalate the situation."
They say the man refused to drop the knife and then attacked a woman with it. That's when police opened fire, killing the man. His name has not been released yet.
The woman suffered multiple injuries, but police say doctors expect her to survive.
Per standard policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The Michigan State Police are conducting an investigation.
