Ionia Free Fair kicks off Thursday

IONIA, Mich. -- Organizers call it the "10 Best Days of Summer."

The Ionia Free Fair gets underway Thursday at the fairgrounds at 317 S. Dexter St. in Ionia.

The Arnold Amusements Midway will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday and 1 p.m. on Friday. There are more than 40 rides and attractions at the carnival.

A monster truck throwdown will serve as the grandstand event Friday night, starting at 7 o'clock. An adult ticket is 20-dollars for anyone 12 and older. It's 12-dollars for kids ages 6 through 11.

Other grandstand events will include a "Night of Destruction" demolition derby and a Twisted Trailer Derby. Some of the other activities include motorcross (July 16), tractor pulls, a rodeo and Dirt X SxS Championship Racing.

On Saturday, there will be a Free Fair 5k Run at 9 a.m. and a parade at 11:30 a.m.
