MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. -- The high cost of food is stressing a lot of Michigan parents this summer.
First Lady Jill Biden addressed that during a visit to Middleville on Wednesday afternoon. At a pair of separate events at YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin, she talked about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s summer nutrition programs for children. And how President Biden is helping to lower the cost of food for parents.
"So, this summer Joe's administration is giving parents whose children receive free and reduced-price lunches a little extra help to buy groceries - $120 for each one of their kids," Biden said. "Here in Michigan, this new Sunbucks program will give more food to almost one-million children this summer."
The First Lady said many grocery chains are making record profits but still raising their prices.
"Joe believes parents shouldn't have to worry about how they'll feed their children," she said.
Dr. Jill Biden also attended an event at the Hidden Helpers summer camp that supports children of wounded military service members and veterans. Today's events took place at YMCA Camp Manitou.
