Three new Magellanic penguin chicks have been born at John Ball Zoo. Within the last three weeks, one chick was born to Rio (mom, 19 years old) and Quffy (dad, 24 years old) and two chicks to Qberta (mom, 16 years old) and Hogan (dad, 14 years old).
Dan Hemmann, the curator at John Ball Zoo, said in a news release that they're excited to welcome the chicks to the zoo and that their "animal care team is closely monitoring the chicks and their parents as they care for their babies. Both sets of parents have been very attentive, and the chicks are thriving and growing stronger each day.”
John Ball Zoo has raised 46 penguins from birth to adulthood since 2000. All four parents were chicks that had been hatched at the Zoo.
