HOLLAND, Mich. -- A fundraiser will take place next Tuesday, June 4, to help raise money for a West Ottawa Middle School student who is fighting Diffuse Midline Glioma. That is a type of cancer that originates in the brain or spinal cord.
People diagnosed with it usually died within two years. Twelve-year-old Emerson Hoogendoorn was diagnosed with DMG in 2018. It went into remission, but she found out last May she is battling a second form of brain cancer.
Per a district news release: "Last May she found out that radiation from that treatment has created a second form of brain cancer that she is currently battling."
The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the old football stadium, between the new and old middle schools. It's accessible via Riley Street or 136th Avenue.
