GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The history of Houseman Field and all the teams and great athletes who played on it will be celebrated there Thursda evening.
The 2024 Mindshare Gala will get underway there at 6 o'clock. That website has ticket information.
It will raise funds for the Grand Rapids Public Schools so students will be able to play sports, go on field trips and enjoy art and music programs.
Coaches, teachers and students will attend the event hosted by the Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation. Its executive director, Stephanie Andrews, told West Michigan's Morning News how you can participate.
"We want you to wear some really snazzy tennis shoes. We want you to bring your letterman jacket or an old-school T-shirt. Marching bands from across the city will be participating," Andrews said.
The fight songs of all the local high schools will be played. Registration and a cocktail hour get things rolling at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m.
Organizers figure more than 300 people will attend the Mindshare Gala.
"We're going to be right on the field. So, it's going to be a really fun experience. Our students are going to be out there, throwing around a football. We've got a volleyball team there, a robotics team," Andrews said. "I's a really interactive fun event. It's a great way to celebrate our school system, and a way to give back and continue to pour into our kids, who are our next generational leaders."
