Grand Rapids Police investigation results in arrest in April 18 shooting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Police say an investigation by their Major Case Team has led to an Assault with Intent to Murder charge being filed against the suspect.

They say 29-year-old Edwin Junior Meyer will have firearm charges read against him, as well. It is connection with an April 18th shooting on Clancy Avenue near Bradford Street, in the Belknap Lookout neighborhood.

Police responded to the scene late that afternoon to find a man lying near the railroad tracks with multiple gunshot wounds. He was critically injured, but is now recovering.

Police Chief Eric Winstrom said quick actions by first responders in providing immediate aid helped save the victim's life. And some detective work cracked the case.

“I commend the Major Case Team for their work to identify this suspect and bring him to justice," Winstrom said.
