GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- The U.S. Coast Guard says Master Petty Officer Marc Moore has been discharged of his duties as the officer in charge of the Coast Guard Station in Grand Haven.
"There was a loss of confidence in his ability to lead the crew, carry out the essential missions and tasking, and operate within the Coast Guard's core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty," Coast Guard Public Affairs Office Lieutenant Phillip Gurther told WOOD Radio in a telephone interview.
No further details were released. Moore is still with the Coast Guard and has been with it for 24 years.
"It's just that those positions of leadership are held to such a high standard that, sometimes they look at it and they say, 'We lost that confidence in your ability to lead that, and that's really what happened," Lt. Gurther said.
Chief Petty Officer Justin Abold has assumed temporary command of the Coast Guard Station in Grand Haven, until a permanent Officer in Charge is appointed.
Coast Guard Station Grand Haven is manned by active duty and reserve members. It is the home of one 45’ Response Boat-Medium, two 29' Response Boat - Smalls, and two 15' ice or shallow rescue skiffs. The station's primary missions are search and rescue and maritime law enforcement on over 3,500 square nautical miles and four counties on the eastern half of Lake Michigan.
