GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mel Trotter Ministries will host its annual Easter Meal today for people and families experiencing homelessness - or seeking fellowship during Holy Week.
Mel Trotter's chief operating officer, Syd Harvey, mentioned the meal is not just for those who reside in the shelter.
"There's also an opportunity to meet some other people who may have not reached out who need help; for resources to avoid homelessness, as well," he said.
There will be a lot of food choices this year.
"So, like with salads they have a a choice between pasta, tossed and deviled eggs. Then, they'll get to choose between ham, panned chicken or roasted tenderloin. Vegetables will be peas, carrots and greens. And the dessert will be between an assortment of pies and cakes," Harvey said.
Mel Trotter guests and Heartside Neighborhood residents who are members will be served beginning at 4 p.m. Families of those staying at Mel Trotter and from the Heartside community at-large will be served at 6 p.m. The location is 225 Commerce Avenue, just south of Cherry Street in Grand Rapids.
"We really try to put our best foot forward so many people have a great meal and opportunity. And by the way, a lot of people don't know it but we do this restaurant-style. So, we seat you, we take your order, we treat you with the best possible way we can, so you have a great experience," he said.
