According to a news release, doctors at the Corewell Health Butterworth Campus are treating a 37-year-old man for critical injuries after his van collided with a semi tanker truck.
It happened around 1:50 p.m. in Holland Township. An Ottawa County Sheriff's sergeant says the tanker truck was stopped at a traffic light on northbound US-31 near Felch Street when it was struck from behind by the van, which was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. A medical chopper responded to the scene, along with an ambulance and Michigan State Police.
The 30-year-old Benton Harbor man who was driving the semi-truck was uninjured.
The freeway was closed for a while following the crash. The semi driver was not injured.
