John Ball Zoo penguin to compete in March of the Penguin Madness tournament

Standing at 2 feet tall and weighing just over 8 pounds, Chester, a Magellanic penguin from John Ball Zoo will take on another Magellanic penguin named Friend from the Jacksonville Zoo and Garden in the first round of the March of Penguin Madness tournament.

According to a news release, the zoo says Chester is one of 47 penguins who will compete for the top brackets in the tournament hosted by Penguin International. He was recruited to the John Ball Zoo from Seaworld back in 2002 and has only grown in popularity at the zoo since.

Not only that, but Chester is a survivor. On July 12th, 2022, Chester suffered a suspected stroke but "persevered and made a speedy and complete recovery by mid-August, passing his swimming test with flying colors."

To ensure Chester takes the top spot, fans can vote for him three times during each round of voting during tournament on the Penguin International's Facebook, Instagram, as well as on their website.

The first round of public voting begins on March 17th.

Go Chester!
